The Fire Department’s Information Technology Team supports 33 fire stations and 2 field offices, ensure availability and reliability of their critical software/hardware systems.
The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Analyst classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.
Analyst I: 73,528.00 - 89,398.40
Analyst II: 80,246.40 - 97,531.20
The individual hired into this job classification is responsible for analytical work in areas including, but not limited to, response times, business process evaluation, recruitment, and budget.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for the selected candidate to play a pivotal role in Fire IT. The employee is expected to assume a lead role for analytical functions along within the application group. A high level of independence and job expertise are vital. The employee in this position should be able to identify problems, research solutions, and provide recommendations with minimal guidance or supervision.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Prepare and send out periodic response time data/status reports to various user groups
Work with Fire IT customers and prepare business needs and work with programmers to prepare data and reports
Work with application group and respond to public data requests
Tracking the Fire IT budget. This includes billing, spending trends, and budget proposals
Supervising the administrative support functions
Conferring with department management and attend high-level meetings
Under the direction of IT Manager participate in hiring processes, including proctoring tests and compiling results.
Other duties as assigned
Tasks assigned to the position necessitate an ability to maintain confidential information essential to the IT Division. Outstanding customer service skills, both on the phone and in person, are required as the duties include working with staff from Fire IT and other Fire Department divisions, other City employees, as well as members of the public. Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel (including Pivot Tables), and using the internet for business communications and research are required. A high level of independence and job expertise are vital. The employee in this position should be able to identify problems, research solutions, and provide recommendations with minimal guidance or supervision.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Analyst I: No experience is required.
Analyst II: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience conducting studies, organizing and analyzing data, and preparing reports, recommendations, or conclusions for a functional area in budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration, or human resources.
Acceptable Substitution:
Experience as a Staff Specialist with the City of San José may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of a valid driver’s license is highly desirable.

Selection Process
