Profile

The Technology Integration Specialist

is a non-aligned, non-exempt/hourly position that will report to the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning. The Technology Integration Specialist promotes the use of technologies to support student achievement in the 6-8 classroom. The Technology Integration Specialist provides leadership, staff development, and instructional support to all instructional and administrative staff. In addition, the Technology Integration Specialist serves as a liaison between school and district technology initiatives and school based implementation and support for administrators and teachers. The Technology Integration Specialist develops and offers district wide instructional technology education for teachers and administrative staff. This position also assists in the development and implementation of curriculum and technology integration projects. The Technology Integration Specialist provides instructional staff with the essential support needed to complete technology-based instructional management and productivity functions. The Technology Integration Specialist collaborates with appropriate instructional and technical staff to support, manage, optimize the use of instructional software, and network resources to support quality teaching and learning. This skilled professional works independently and collaboratively with colleagues.

The Essential Functions of this position include but are not limited to:

In Support of Teaching and Learning

Collaborate with teachers to support their use of technology in delivery of curricula through a variety of instructional methods.

Develop ways that technology can support personalized learning as defined by VT’s Act 77, student centered learning concepts, and project based learning in classrooms and remote learning environments where applicable.

Serve as a teacher leader in coordinating teams to assess assistive technology needs, consulting on technology budgets, providing professional development, implementing technology policies, and proposing learning opportunities for staff and students as they relate to technology.

Provide training for district employees on the use of instructional and non-instructional programs and hardware.

Lead, design and participate in professional development activities in district, regional, state and select national settings

Design and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers, administration and instructional assistants across grades and across content areas.

In support of Curriculum, Instructional Resources, and Assessment

Help teachers develop curriculum materials, specific lesson plans and assessments to utilize best practices in integrating technology across the content areas and across grade levels.

Identify positive trends in educational software, hardware, and teaching strategies for integrating technology. Make recommendations for technology purchases to meet the educational needs of our staff and students

Provide leadership in the district developing and implementing k-12 curricula with a strong integrated technology component. Work may be done in PLC or other curriculum groups.

Collaborate with the other ETIS in the implementation of a sequential curriculum to ensure common teaching and learning opportunities for K-12 students.

School and District Leadership

Contributes to the development of district educational technology policies and/or procedures.

Participate as a member of the district Educational Technology Integration Specialist vertical team and attend regional technology meetings as the district’s representative.

Consult on the technology budget with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning for technology resources, including hardware, software, learning resources and training needs.

Facilitate clear communication between the teaching staff and the technology department

Demonstrate effective time management, organizational skills, and prioritization of work to meet the needs of the users.

The required education and experience of this position include:

Education:

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.

Certification Preferred: VT Educator license with an Educational Technology Specialist endorsement.

Experience:

Minimum Required: Experience with best practices in effective technology teaching strategies for teaching software and hardware skills to both students and adults.

Preferred:

Three years of successful full-time experience as a classroom teacher.

Two years of professional development experience educating teachers or other adults in the integration of technology for instruction and productivity using all of the following modes: modeling, one-on-one, small group, or large group preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Working knowledge

Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

General knowledge

Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.

Thorough knowledge

Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.

Comprehensive knowledge

Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.

4. List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:

Knowledge of key learning theories and methods of instruction, and their relation to technology integration.

Up-to-date knowledge and skills with current computer operating systems and basic troubleshooting techniques with computer hardware and applications.

Familiarity with the current Educational Technology standards.

Specialized background and training in strategies for teacher professional development.

Knowledge of a wide range of classroom practices and strategies and their relationship to student learning.

Understanding of and ability to work with children with varying cognitive, physical and emotional needs.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Common Core Standards, STEM, and best practice instructional strategies.

Demonstrated knowledge of new computer, video, communication, web-based technologies, curriculum design, and working knowledge of instructional design and assessments.

Ability to effectively educate/mentor technology users.

Ability to follow and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.

Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
